![]() " Dark Souls with guns" is a phrase you've no doubt heard before when describing Remnant, and while that shorthand isn't wrong, there were so many other elements in there too. Gunfire Games, the team behind the much-loved Darksiders III, took a shot at this back in 2019 with Remnant: From the Ashes and not only delivered a world we couldn't wait to get back into, but also some unique gameplay loops that made for an addictive experience. Despite the occasional difficulty spikes and slightly disappointing gear system, the thrill of finally beating a boss that’s had your number for hours is unmatched. With so many Souls-like titles coming and going in the past few years, it seems almost impossible to not only stand out from the crowd, but also bring your own memorable hook to the genre - especially one with a world and lore deep enough to keep players engaged in a way FromSoftware seems to have mastered so well. In our 8/10 review, IGN said: "Remnant: From the Ashes is a co-op action-RPG that's punishing and grotesque, but exciting and beautiful all at the same time. The original Remnant, subtitled From the Ashes, was released in 2019. We can’t wait for everyone to play it next year." "There are so many interesting stories to tell, vicious enemies to vanquish, exciting loot to grab, Archetypes to experiment with, and heart-pumping action for players to experience with their friends. "We are excited to delve back into the world of Remnant with the team at Gearbox Publishing," said Gunfire Games founder and CEO David Adams. A reworked archetype system also allows for more character customisation and better synergy when playing in co-op. ![]() Each new playthrough puts players in a procedurally generated world that pulls together different locations, enemies, NPC,s bosses, and weapons to give each run a unique feel.
